Lesotho is a small landlocked country in South Africa that is twinned with Wales.
In Easter 2023 Train4ALN were invited to visit the One Day Orphanage, Lesotho and meet the most amazing, brave, funny, determined, inspiring young man, Mafa. Mafa has severe Autism and Learning disabilities, and like many children with such conditions in Lesotho, does not attend school. The directors and volunteers through Train4ALN began providing sensory sessions for other young people in the village with disabilities which has been so much fun and has given the young people and parents a chance to enjoy spending time with their peers, and even set up a a sensory corner in young boy’s house who had no way of attending the sessions.
The sessions have been a huge success and we will continue to run our outreach over sessions over there.
Sensory training for house parents in Halibasa. Train4Aln delivered a session helping the house parents understand the impact of sensory impairments on young people’s everyday life. “I never really thought about how hard a simple game of ball or even writing your name could be if you had visual difficulties, or difficulties with your proprioception”. “This training has really made me think about how I can help make things easier”
